Our Roadmap for Sentra Presence Response

Sentra Presence Response is being developed with one priority above everything else: the technology must be shaped around the real needs of the women it is intended to protect.

Our next step is not simply to build more technology. It is to listen.

We are beginning conversations with domestic violence survivors, shelters, advocates, safety professionals, and community organizations to better understand what makes a woman feel safer, what creates unnecessary stress, which features would actually be used, and how Sentra should respond during vulnerable moments.

That feedback will directly influence the design of Presence Response.

1. Listen and Learn

We want survivors and professionals working directly with domestic violence to help us identify:

• What situations create the greatest feelings of vulnerability

• When simulated presence would be most useful

• Which controls need to be immediate and simple

• What emergency and trusted-contact options matter most

• What privacy protections are essential

• What could make the technology feel supportive rather than intimidating

The people who may eventually rely on Sentra should have a meaningful voice in how it is designed.

2. Build the First Working Pilot

Using that feedback, we plan to develop a working Presence Response system capable of coordinating existing smart-home technology such as:

• Lighting

• Audio and realistic household sounds

• Television and device activity

• Room-to-room sequencing

• Other subtle environmental cues that create the believable impression that additional people are present

The goal is pre-entry deterrence: helping discourage unwanted attention before a confrontation occurs.

3. Keep the Woman in Control

Presence Response is being designed around a simple activation experience.

A woman should not have to understand complicated technology during a stressful moment. Our goal is a straightforward Simulate Presence control combined with access to trusted contacts, advocates, safety resources, recording or sharing tools where appropriate, and other support options.

The technology supports the person. It does not make decisions about her safety for her.

4. Test With Real-World Partners

Once the prototype is functional, we want to conduct carefully managed pilot installations with community partners and participating women.

We will evaluate:

• Ease of use

• Reliability

• Realism of the simulated presence

• Whether the system increases a user's sense of safety and control

• Which features are valuable and which are unnecessary

• Privacy and security concerns

• Installation and support requirements

We will continue improving the system based on what participants tell us.

5. Build a Community Safety Network

Foundations FYI can help connect the technology with the human support surrounding it.

Our larger vision includes collaboration among domestic violence organizations, advocates, nonprofits, churches, local businesses, technology partners, donors, volunteers, and safety professionals so that Presence Response is not simply a device installed in someone's home.

It becomes part of a larger circle of support.

6. Make the Technology Accessible

Our long-term goal is to help make Presence Response available to women who could benefit from it regardless of their financial situation.

That means pursuing:

• Donated equipment

• Community sponsorships

• Grants

• Technology partnerships

• Pilot funding

• Installation assistance

• Training and ongoing support

Foundations FYI's role is to help build the community partnerships and charitable support that can make those installations possible.

Where We Are Going

Sentra Presence Response is still being developed, tested, and refined.

We are intentionally building it with survivors, not simply for survivors.

Every conversation, prototype, partnership, and pilot brings us closer to a system that is practical, respectful, private, and genuinely useful when someone feels vulnerable.

Our goal is simple: give a woman another layer of deterrence, another option, and another reason to feel that she is not facing a threatening situation alone.

Help Us Build Sentra Presence Response

Sentra Presence Response is still being developed, tested, and refined, and we are actively looking for people who want to help us make it better.

We are seeking support from:

• Domestic violence survivors willing to share insight

• Advocates and shelter professionals

• Safety and security professionals

• Developers and programmers

• Smart-home and hardware specialists

• Local businesses and sponsors

• Nonprofits and churches

• Donors and community partners

• Volunteers who want to help with testing, outreach, installation, or pilot support

Our goal is to build Presence Response with the people it is intended to serve, especially women who understand firsthand what vulnerability can feel like.
